What is the Importance of Pet Vaccinations?

The world-famous quote “Prevention is better than cure” fits perfectly for the answer to this question. Your pets are susceptible to numerous fatal diseases and viruses. Vaccinations assist your pet’s immune system in producing antibodies that work against those viruses and bacteria. This way, the likelihood of them getting those fatal diseases decreases. Even if your pet gets the disease, the severity of that disease decreases to a great extent.

We are the expert vets in Kumeu that provide not only the necessary vaccines but also the highly recommended regular boosters. Make sure to enroll your pets in our annual vaccination checkups to identify any possible virus or bacteria that might affect your pets.

Our list of vaccines includes:

Vaccinations for Puppies and Dogs

Our vaccines for dogs protect them against:

Canine Parvovirus
It is a highly fatal and contagious disease that can affect any dog, but the puppies and the younger ones are at the highest risk. It attacks the dog’s gastrointestinal tract and is spread by direct contact with the contaminated species. Its symptoms include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, fever or low body temperature that can cause dehydration and damage the immune system.

Canine distemper
It is an extremely contagious disease that is not very common but is extremely dangerous if caught. This virus is also common among wild animals like foxes, coyotes, wolves, skunks, and raccoons. Its symptoms include watery or pus-like discharge from the eyes, fever, lethargy, coughing, vomiting, and reduced appetite.

Canine Hepatitis
This contagious disease is caused by an adenovirus that targets the spleen, lungs, lining of blood vessels, and liver. Its list of symptoms are:

  • Fever
  • Enlarged tonsils
  • Eye inflammation
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Abdominal pain
  • Thirst
  • Loss of appetite
  • Blindness
  • Severe depression
  • Swollen belly

Vaccination for Kittens and Cats

Our vaccination for cats protects them against:

Feline Panleukopenia
It is a highly severe disease that was the leading cause of death among various cats. Now has become an uncommon issue because of the availability of vaccines against its virus that is parvovirus. Unvaccinated and younger kittens are most susceptible to this disease.
Its symptoms include fever, dehydration, weakness and vomiting. Some cats even show signs of being poisoned.

Feline Respiratory disease
This virus is known as ‘cat flu, ‘ caused by feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR) and feline calicivirus (FCV). Its symptoms include discharge from the nose and eyes, sneezing, nasal congestion, and conjunctivitis.
